The History of Carnival
The colorful and exciting history of the modern-day Rio Carnival goes all the way back to the ancient Romans and Greeks who celebrated the rites of Spring. Across Europe, including France, Spain and Portugal, people annually gave thanks by throwing large parties, wearing masks and dancing in the streets. These traditions were carried over to the new world!
CARNIVAL IN BRAZIL, 2008 & 2009
During the once a year Brazilian Carnival Season, there are parties and celebrations in virtually every corner of Brazil. Among some of the best known events take place in the town of Recife and nearby Olinda (on the north-eastern coast of Brazil) and the historical town of Salvador (Bahia). However, the grandest, most lively, uninhibited and most sensual of all Carnival celebrations is a spectacular event in Rio de Janeiro.
